Global Studies
Chef Christopher and his colleague at Taher, Chef Brian, visited our classes on Friday, February 5 to share their experiences traveling through Japan last fall. They went to Japan to learn more about the Japanese cuisine. For an hour, they described their visit, demonstrated how to make sushi/sashimi (they made tuna, salmon, crab, and vegetable), and then showed us a slideshow from their trip. Enjoy!

We had an opportunity to make Mochi in our classrooms. Mochi is a sweet rice steamed and pounded to a smooth consistency. The students rolled the Mochi into small rice patties and then ate them with three dipping sauces - soy sauce mixed with sugar, soy powder and sugar, and soy sauce with Nori (seaweed). Enjoy the photos from our culinary experience:

We have been studying the geography of Japan. The students learned that Japan is a nation made up of four main islands full of mountians. The students built relief maps with modeling clay to represent their learning:

Romanized lyrics to Usagi:

What are you watching when you are jumping
The full moon on the night of the fifteenth
That is what I am watching when I am jumping
